San Diego Divorce Lawyer Serves Divorce Papers on Facebook

There is nothing so messy as a good divorce! So, when it comes to serving the divorce papers, good luck finding your other half! Until recently this would have been a recipe for an expensive trip to a foreign land to serve the papers in a divorce . But in a move worthy of the fast moving communications of the 21st Century, Staley went ahead and found his clients other half on Facebook, and then petitioned the San Diego California Courts to serve the divorce papers on Facebook.

A petition that was duly granted, as was the divorce.

It is believed that this is a legal first in California, and looks set to create a precedent that could have far reaching implications for how court papers are served.

This is a trend that is only going to develop, because the courts are finally starting to acknowledge that serving papers electronically is simply the most reliable way to ensure that the defendant gets actual notice of the legal proceedings. My goal is always to limit my clients stress and get the right result with a minimum of fuss, and I believe this is a good step on the road to achieving that.”
