How Independent Should You Be As An Independent Contractor?
John Jennings discusses the common characteristics and special qualities of the modern independent contractor, focussing in on the degree of independence which could be considered ideal.
(Monday, April 29th, 2013) United Kingdom - John Jennings communicates that: “As an independent contractor you already have a taste for adventure, a certain amount of flair and ambition and a will to simply ”make things happen.“ You have to have a tenacious character and never take no for an answer. Certainly it could be argued that you like to live life dangerously and not for you the comfort of a 9-to-5 job.”
Host John Jennings says: “Yet even though you are by definition an independent person that does not mean that you have to go it alone all the way down the line. You have enough on your plate when it comes to actually doing the job itself, so you really need to have a team of additional experts on your side, to whom you can call at any time for a variety of reasons.”
At this point John Jennings goes on to say: “When you are deeply involved in your current contract it is often difficult to find the time to look beyond the end of that agreement. Yet this is something that you need to do in order to keep your income as stable as possible. Of course you have long forgone the ”stability“ of that 9-to-5 pay check, but you must also do your best to ensure that a pictorial graph of your income does not look like a proverbial roller coaster.”
John then conveys the idea behind this way of thinking: “When you sign up for an independent contractor service this organisation has the ability to expertly negotiate new contracts for you. The best organisations have a range of expertise spread across a diverse number of industries. They also are familiar with practices and legalities in all of the major commercial markets around the world. When choosing an organisation such as this to help you as an independent contractor it is important to satisfy yourself that this company has the experience and flexibility in order to give you the support you need.”
John Jennings finally drums home the point that: “As we said before you need to be concentrating with 100% of your effort on the contract in hand. Yet you do need to be paying attention to important matters such as financial investment and wealth management. The organisation that you choose to help you with your independent contractor services will go to bat for you in this and many other areas area as well. Consequently it should help you to sleep that little bit easier at night when you know that you have a team in your corner, even though you are by definition independent.”
