-Up to 200 new jobs by the end of construction

Bonn / Hamburg, - -DHL Supply Chain is constructing a brand new state-of-the-art logistics center for the TOM TAILOR GROUP in Hamburg. The two companies have been working together successfully since 2008 and are now looking to consolidate the partnership in the longer term. The new warehouse complies with the latest technological standards and, with a size of almost 40,000 square meter, is designed to keep up with the expected growth mainly in the wholesale sector. The new building will complement the existing DHL Supply Chain multi-user warehouse in Hamburg. Upon completion, the Hamburg DHL Supply Chain facility - especially for Fashion customers - is expected to create up to 200 new jobs.

“We are delighted that the TOM TAILOR GROUP is extending our business relationship through the joint development of a new ultra-modern logistics solution. The location is perfectly suited to the further growth of the TOM TAILOR GROUP and can provide the required infrastructure to guarantee the efficient international distribution of goods,” explains Martin Seidenberg, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps. “I am also delighted that we will be creating new jobs for the region.”

The new central warehouse is being built on what is, for us, the perfect location and, in terms of logistics, it forms the long-term basis for continued wholesale growth within the TOM TAILOR GROUP. By having different warehouse expansion stages, we are able to react to changing structural conditions with greater flexibility and thus guarantee required warehouse capacity. And thanks to state-of-the-art warehouse technology we are also able to provide efficient, high-quality distribution", comments Dieter Holzer, CEO at the TOM TAILOR GROUP.

Positive development potential

DHL Supply Chain currently handles over 40 million items per year for the TOM TAILOR GROUP - by 2020 this figure is set to rise to 100 million items per annum. The new facility will be kitted out with a whole range of technological innovations. Telescopic conveyors with vacuum tube lifters to facilitate the ergonomic unloading of boxes are just one example of the equipment to be put to use. At approx. four kilometers in length, a system designed to automatically dispatch boxes is also being integrated whilst modern packing machines guarantee workflow efficiency. The new logistics center is set to start operations in the first half of 2015.

“The expansion of DHL’s logistics services for the TOM TAILOR GROUP, here, at the new DHL Supply Chain site in Hamburg demonstrates that these are two companies who work extremely successfully together, and who see positive development potential in Hamburg as a logistics location both now and for the future”, comments Dr. Bernd Egert, State Council and Logistics Coordinator for the Hamburg Senate. “That’s what you call a classic win-win situation.”
