Lighting For the Aging Eye
Norm Brown
As the aging adult population continues to increase in North America, quality lighting’s role in meeting the needs of an aging visual system becomes ever more important. As we age, even healthy eyes become more sensitive to glare - they require higher contrasts to see than they did when we were younger, as well as higher illumination levels. The need for higher light levels also means that control of sources of light is especially important. This seminar describes some of the changes that can be incorporated in to a home’s lighting design to make it more comfortable and secure.

Norm Brown, CLC (Certified Lighting Consultant) Marketing Manager of Norburn Lighting. Norm has been a member of the ALA Certification Committee for the past 10 years, serving as chair since 2007. He has been involved in editing all new education materials since 2002 and was a key factor in the creation of the Certificate Specialist program as a member of the Editing Task Force for the program’s monographs. In 2009 was recognized by the ALA as a “Pillar of the Industry” for his exceptional contributions that have advanced the programs and interests of the lighting industry and the ALA over the past 12 to 18 months.

The seminars are arranged to support Interior Designers, Architects and other industry professionals who specify luminaire due to their changeover from traditional technologies to advanced energy saving lighting sources.
