Two Con Edison Managers Win National YMCA Aaward

Two Con Edison managers have been honored with the YMCA National Black Achievers in Industry (BAI) Award.

Nicole Leon, a section manager in the Con Edison’s Leadership and Career Development department, and Christiane Gabriel, a manager in the Labor and Wage department, were chosen through a survey of company officers. The award recognizes African-Americans in business who have provided inspiration, motivation and hope for youths and young adults.

Both managers were nominated for their diligence, community service and dedication to Con Edison’s environmental goals.

Leon has more than 20 years of professional work experience and is responsible for developing and delivering leadership training and career development programs to assist Con Edison employees achieve their career goals.

A resident of Morris Plains, New Jersey, Leon has served as a board member for the REACH charter school, participated in Junior Achievement, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and continues to mentor young adults.

At Con Edison, Gabriel leads a team of specialists that review internal labor matters. She also represents the company at various labor hearings.

The South Orange, New Jersey resident is a member of the National Association of Professional Women, and has participated in the New Jersey United Way Project Leadership career development program and Habitat for Humanity.

The BAI Award was founded at the Harlem YMCA in 1971 and is now a national project with more than 4,000 recipients.

Leon and Gabriel recently received their prestigious awards at a dinner in Manhattan attended by other awardees from around the country.
