English Stories To Warm The Winter Nights

The first in a series of English stories about Wild Eadric, an English Lord living at the time of the Norman Conquest who, so legend has it, had a faery bride.

WEBWIRE – Thursday, February 28, 2013

There is nothing like a fire side tale to cheer up a cold winter night which is what Sue Kendrick’s new short story, “The Inbetween”, does with this beguiling English story of dark age myth and magic.

“‘The Inbetween’ is set during the time of the Norman conquest and is one of the few truly English stories featuring the historical, but little know partisan, Wild Eadric.  Although there is a lot of documentary evidence for the existence of Eadric, he is best known for his strange, fairy bride who brought him great joy, but also proved his doom,” said author, Sue Kendrick.

The story is told through the eyes of the old lady Arwyn who has the gift of second sight.  She uses the power of  the “Inbetween,” to gain a glimpse of her only son’s future.  The Inbetween is the long night of the winter solstice which marks the turning of the year and according to folklore, is when the veil between the worlds grows thin.

It is also a time of feasting and merriment which forms the backdrop of the strange events which take place that night.

Although newly published, “The Inbetween” has been highly acclaimed by fans of historical, English stories who have left impressive reviews on Amazon.

“I’ve been really surprised about how well the story has been received … was enraptured by the end of the first page … from the beginning I was lost in the magical, but spine chilling, atmosphere … a well-rounded tale that is a positive contribution to modern fairy tales … these are just a few of the comments from the book’s Amazon page,” said Sue which has encouraged me to add more to the series.

Published as a Kindle book, “The Inbetween” is available for download from Amazon
