npower receives Green Deal provider authorisation

npower has announced its authorisation to offer Green Deal Plans in the spring.

npower has received official authorisation from the Green Deal Oversight and Registration Body to act as a Green Deal Provider. This is a key step in our preparation to offer Green Deal Plans in the spring.

The Green Deal is a new government scheme which is set to revolutionise the energy efficiency of British properties and reduce carbon emissions. Under the Green Deal, households will be able to benefit from energy efficiency improvements - such as loft, cavity or solid wall insulation - without the need for large up front costs, which can be a potential barrier to many consumers. Instead, the Green Deal provides a ’pay as you save’ finance mechanism allowing consumers to take a loan and pay the cost back in installments through their electricity bill. Consumers can take comfort in the knowledge that, in principle, the costs that they will pay back are limited to be, on average, less than the savings they will make on their bills - the so called ’Golden Rule’.

David Titterton, Director of Green Deal Delivery and Obligations for npower energy services said: "I am delighted that we have secured official authorisation to become a Green Deal Provider. This authorisation is designed to instil confidence in consumers in undertaking their Green Deal improvements and allows us to use the official Green Deal Quality Mark.

“At npower we will be able to offer a comprehensive range of services covered by the Green Deal. We already have in place a team of experts who can provide advice on energy efficiency in the home and offer energy saving measures such as cavity wall and loft insulation. Since 2009, under previous government schemes, we’ve already installed well over one million cavity and loft insulation improvements into consumers homes and helped over twenty five thousand households to switch from coal, electric or oil heating to more energy efficient gas central heating.”

To help drive demand for the Green Deal in its early stages, the government have also recently announced a Green Deal Cashback Scheme. It’s a first come first served offer where householders can claim cash back worth up to £1,000 from the government for energy efficiency improvements. It a limited offer while funds last and will be available to households from 28th January 2013.
