Dresden Station Workers Complete Unit 3 Refueling Outage

Operators return Dresden Unit 3 to full power

MORRIS, Ill. ó Operators returned Dresden Generating Station Unit 3 to full power at 1:54 a.m. today following the completion of the unitís 22nd refueling outage.

During the outage, Exelon employees and supplemental workers performed more than 11,000 activities, including equipment upgrades, safety inspections, tests and plant improvements. The unit began its scheduled refueling outage on Monday, Nov. 12.

ďThe replacement of the unitís low pressure turbines and the other work completed during the outage will help ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of Unit 3,Ē said Dresden Site Vice President David Czufin.

Dresden Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 3 refueling outage.

Dresden Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The stationís two operating units can produce more than 1,800 megawatts, enough electricity to power nearly 2 million average homes. Dresden Unit 1, which began commercial operation in 1960 and was retired in 1978, has been designated a Nuclear Historic Landmark by the American Nuclear Society.
