Community Clean Enlists Prius to Drive Emissions Down

WEBWIRE

Local company Community Clean – nationwide experts in surface and structure cleaning, as well as graffiti management – have expanded their fleet of environmentally-friendly motors, adding a third Westover Toyota Prius to the line-up. A fourth will join the company’s ranks later this year.

Community Clean, which operates locally along the South Coast as well as further afield in London and Birmingham, has 15 years’ experience in keeping streets and buildings in peak condition. Working predominately for local authorities and major contractors, the Wimborne-based company is one of the first in its field to achieve the ISO’s hard-won environmental award in recognition of its top-notch practices, which include developing a low-carbon vehicle fleet.

“Our contract managers drive the Prius cars,” reports Andy Izzard, Managing Director. “They travel a lot of miles, visiting clients in the Midlands as well as in our own area, so they’re pretty demanding motorists who are looking for a high level of comfort, room for the kids at the weekend and also want a car that’s kind on the wallet. It’s not easy to find a vehicle that meets all those criteria, but the Prius fits the bill on all fronts and it’s also good from a company point of view, bringing reduced fuel bills and congestion-charge exemption.

“They present a good image too - they’re professional without being flash and they align with our clients’ expectations, which means we receive a lot of compliments about them.

“We bought our first Prius in September 2010 from Westover Toyota,” finishes Andy. “We’ve steadily grown the fleet since and intend to keep doing so. We’ve received great service from Rob Beldham, our contact at Westover’s First 4 Business unit, and his team. They’ve worked hard for us over the last couple of years and we like dealing with a local company, able to maintain our cars and provide courtesy vehicles if we need them.”

Toyota has recently launched two new Prius models, both available to test drive at Westover Toyota - the Prius Plug-In and the Prius+. The new Prius Plug-In is part electric, part hybrid, meaning it comes with all the benefits of a standard Prius and then some. It has a 1.8 litre petrol engine, as well as a lithium-ion battery which can be recharged from a client office, an on-street charging point or at an eco business park. No need for any range anxiety though – if the battery runs out of power, the car will simply switch to petrol mode. The Prius+ is a larger version of its original hybrid stable-mate, able to seat seven comfortably and better able than ever to accommodate the weekend demands of a growing family.

Also new to the hybrid line up and proving popular with businesses that need a run around for city-based journeys, is the Yaris Hybrid - the first-ever car of its size to come with full hybrid technology. In electric mode it’s virtually silent and its 1.5 litre engine delivers emissions far below the 100g/km free road tax threshold, combined with fuel economy of just over 80 mpg. As with original Prius technology, the car’s battery is charged when the engine is running.
