$2,500 grant to Children’s Museum to support new displays on energy and conservation

London, ON – Union Gas is helping the London Regional Children’s Museum fund the Investigation Station portion of its Science in Your World gallery, courtesy of a $2,000 grant awarded today. The program offers children an opportunity to build strong foundations in energy awareness and conservation.

Maha El-Birani, Union Gas district engineering intern-in-training for London/Sarnia, presented the cheque today to Joy Birch, executive director of the London Regional Children’s Museum, in the museum’s Science in Your World gallery.

“At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow,” said El-Birani. “That means supporting important environmental education programs in the communities we serve. We are very pleased to help the London Regional Children’s Museum make this community an even better place to live and work.”

Union Gas’ contribution will help the museum redevelop the Investigation Station portion of its Science in Your World gallery into more permanent displays. These new displays will cover various subjects including: endangered species, recycling, farming, energy, and nutrient cycles. The new displays will contain learning opportunities for the museum’s entire audience and will be hands-on and interactive.

“It is with the help and generous community support of organizations like Union Gas that we at the Children’s Museum are able to provide experiential learning opportunities for children and their families,” Birch said. “Children are able to actively engage in the content at hand and make real-world connections. This is particularly important as it relates to environmental education as it helps to create global citizens who will think critically about their impact on the world.”

Over the past 100 years, Union Gas has been privileged to work in more than 400 Ontario communities.
