Washington, DC – October 14, 2012 , DriveLab, a Washington, D.C. based high performance driver training and education company announces its plans to host the second annual “Helmets off to Heroes” Event at the Summit Point Race Track Complex in West Virginia on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2012 from 7am to 5:30pm. This event is free to all veterans, Wounded Warriors and active duty military. The event is designed to allow these honored members of the community the opportunity to enjoy a day of driving on a racetrack on the Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia, a short drive from the Washington, DC metro area.
“The Annual Helmets off to Heroes” Event is DriveLab’s way of showing a small token of appreciation to these heroes, while giving them the driving experience of their lifetime,” says Miriam Schottland, President and founder of DriveLab.
Participants drive their own cars on the track, specially equipped or not, accompanied by a highly trained instructor at all times in a controlled environment. There will be Wounded Warriors who will be driving their own specially equipped vehicles.
“This event is a great opportunity for veterans to experience camaraderie with friends while enjoying the thrill of being behind the wheel on a real racetrack”says Schottland, “Wounded Warriors who cannot drive are more than welcome to come out and enjoy riding with the instructors.”
The event starts early with check-in and car inspection beginning at 7am. This is followed by classroom instruction and car control exercises including skid pad, braking and slalom exercises, each intended to improve participant’s driving skills. Lunch , donated by a neighborhood restaurant is followed by a driver’s meeting and the afternoon is spent at high speed on the racetrack. The event finishes up with a debrief and awards ceremony at 5pm.
“We’ve developed a packed schedule so that our nation’s heroes can have a day of inspiration, confidence building and learning,” says Schottland, “while learning key driving skills, they get to experience what it feels like on a real racetrack with top instructors.”
