San Diego Resident Donates $150,000 to San Diego Hospice

Long time San Diego resident Marian Cornell and her late husband, Gene, have donated $150,000 to San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine, in support of the nonprofit organization’s programs and services for seriously ill adults and children.

Marian presented the check to Dr. Doris Howell, Founder of San Diego Hospice in a private meeting. Marian and Gene were introduced to San Diego Hospice by Craig Horner of LPL Financial and have been donating to the organization for over 35 years.

"My late husband Gene and I are very proud to provide this special gift to San Diego Hospice. I truly believe that our donation will help patients and their families get the needed hospice services they truly deserve,” said Cornell.

San Diego Hospice cares for more than 1,000 seriously ill adults and children each day throughout the county. Care is provided in the patient’s home or wherever the patient resides. In the nonprofit’s 35-year history - the oldest and largest hospice care provider in the region - San Diego Hospice has never turned a hospice-eligible patient away because of his or her inability to pay for hospice care.

“As Marian provided care for patients during her nursing career, the contribution made by her and Gene will now take care of future hospice patients throughout San Diego County,” stated Traci Bruckner, Chief Development Officer of San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine.
