Chunghwa Telecom Selects Comtrend PowerLine Adapter, Powered by Next Generation Sigma Designs Chipset, Enabling Advanced IPTV Home Service Across Taiwan

IRVINE, CA  (July 2012 Release North America)- Comtrend Corporation, a global supplier of advanced networking solutions, announces the selection of the PG-9141 PowerLine adapter by Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest service provider, for delivering IPTV services in consumer homes. Comtrend’s PG-9141 utilizes a Sigma Designs CG2210 processor and is a wall mount adapter that plugs into the electrical outlets inside the home and delivers HD quality video across electrical wiring. The selection of the PG-9141 followed a rigorous product evaluation process, in which the PG-9141 PowerLine adapter passed acceptance tests and met Chunghwa’s set of technical requirements.

With IPTV proliferation growing globally, providers see an increasing need for PowerLine communications solutions to distribute high quality video, Internet and gaming throughout consumer homes. Chunghwa Telecom’s switch to a new generation of products, like the PG-9141, will enable deployment of high quality IPTV service to the growing consumer market in Taiwan. This introduction of Sigma’s HomePlug AV solution by Chunghwa represents Sigma Designs’ first PowerLine deployment into the Taiwanese consumer IPTV market. The chip distribution relationship between Sigma Designs and Comtrend with Chunghwa Telecom positions Sigma to become a major player in IPTV connectivity in Asia.
