LePort Launches Spanish Immersion Montessori Preschool Program

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, April 25, 2012 – LePort Schools is offering a new Spanish immersion Montessori preschool program in Huntington Beach. Starting on September 5th, children ages 18 months through kindergarten will be able to learn Spanish naturally, in a full immersion preschool environment.
 
“We regularly hear from parents who want to give their children the gift of a second language during the preschool years”, says Heike Larson, Vice President of Outreach. “We were surprised to discover that there are no Montessori preschools offering a full immersion program in any language here in Orange County. While there are numerous language immersion schools around the country, particularly in metropolitan areas like the Bay Area and New York City, there are no Montessori language immersion preschools in OC. The Spanish immersion program in our Huntington Beach preschool will fill this obvious need.”
 
LePort’s Spanish immersion program is integrated into a Montessori preschool environment, which is ideally suited to foster bilingualism. “Our goal is to enable children from English-speaking or mixed-language households to become capable speakers of Spanish, and to equip them with literacy skills in both English and Spanish during their preschool years”, explains Ray Girn, CEO of LePort Schools. “Both teachers [the head teacher and her assistant] will speak only in Spanish with the children, presenting all Montessori preschool lessons in Spanish. This full immersion environment enables children to learn more than just a few numbers and colors, or phrases and songs. They actually become natural speakers of the Spanish language! While many of us spent tedious years in high-school and college language classes only to leave with very little actual language, our preschoolers will become bilingual—and effortlessly.”
 
Enrollment for the Spanish immersion Montessori preschool in Huntington Beach is now open for the 2012/13 school year. Children who will be between 18 month and 3 ½ years old by September are eligible to start in the Spanish immersion toddler and preschool programs; older children may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, if they come into the program with sufficient Spanish skills.
