The Snugg Reaps rewards as Black Friday Deals result in 149% increase in weekend online sales

To many shoppers, this is a stressful experience, and so more and more shoppers seek to avoid the rush by shopping online. Ecommerce sales have steadily increased year on year, and for The Snugg, this year was no exception.

The Snugg, the UK based, best-selling iPad and tablet case retailer, began promoting their first ever Black Friday deal last week, getting involved with the kick-off to the Christmas shopping period.

This weekend, the likes of WalMart saw point-of-sale displays broken and fittings destroyed, as many shoppers clamored for the in-store deals used to generate the most in-store custom and foot fall.

To many shoppers, this is a stressful experience, and so more and more shoppers seek to avoid the rush by shopping online. Ecommerce sales have steadily increased year on year, with 2010 seeing a 9% overall growth in online trade compared to the previous year on Black Friday; a level of growth which remained true all weekend, including the more recent ‘Cyber Monday’.

Earlier this year, The Snugg expanded to the US, the rest of Europe and a number of other territories and so participating in the local festivities has become important in gaining brand visibility. So to get involved, The Snugg began giving away free iPhone 4 /4S cases with every purchase made on their site from Black Friday through to midnight on Cyber Monday.

When asked about the deal, Managing Director Richard Mercer stated that:

“We knew that people who were shopping online over the Black Friday weekend weren’t necessarily in the market for anything in particular, they just wanted a good deal; so this presented us with an opportunity to present ourselves to new audiences who may not have thought to buy cases for smartphones and tablet devices. We gained a lot of extra exposure, which allowed us to cross sell our best-selling iPad 2 Case and our sales revenues increased massively as a result”

TechCrunch recently posted an article stating that early estimates place this year’s Black Friday Ecommerce sales growth at 25% which is much higher than many expected, although this may better reflect emerging trends, where people shop more from home to avoid the crush.

“We have always known that online retailing would continue to grow as the Internet has become more accessible, and tablet and mobile devices play a large part in that. This year, Amazon was once again crowned the ‘most visited’ store on Black Friday and our Amazon sales channels reflect this. As an online retailer it’s important to appear in all the right places and I feel we’ve done a good job of doing so” adds Mr Mercer

In the week before Black Friday, the Snugg was preparing for the release of its new Kindle Fire Case to compliment the predicted surge in sales of Amazon Kindle Fire devices. Within an hour of going on sale, their first batch had sold out and they continue to sell at a rapid rate.

“We’ve been working really hard to meet demand as these cases are flying off the shelves. With the Christmas shopping period in full swing, we hope to establish a solid brand reputation in the US for our quality Kindle Fire Covers and iPad 2 Cases that will support our lines well into the new year when the revised Kindle Fire additions are released” states Mr Mercer.

Despite the recession and polls demonstrating that 37% of Americans felt that they are financially worse off now, than they were at the same time last year, recent figures indicate an overall increase in Black Friday trade for this year. Where Black Friday sales figures are used to gauge the spending behavior of consumers, this year looks to be a good year for online retailers all round.
