Book Predicts Deadly Influenza Outbreak in U.S. in Late 2011

‘Curse of the 8th Buddha’ is a sci-fi thriller that raised eyebrows when the author, Rick Tobin, predicted the deaths of two-hundred-thousand Californians and ten percent of the entire U.S. during a catastrophic pandemic coming in the winter of 2011. When asked about the reason for making such an outlandish claim as part of the storyline in ‘Curse of the 8th Buddha’, Rick said, “I wrote the novel in 2007, long before the H1N1 swine flu outbreak. The original scenario told of a flu outbreak preceded by hurricanes along the East Coast. Waterfowl migrations were then diverted in late summer of 2011. This year’s weather is strikingly similar and bird migrations have been quite odd.

‘Curse of the 8th Buddha’ features an emergency manager who losses his family in the Great Epidemic of 2011. He is inducted into the Knights Templar—who quietly run California behind the scenes. Tobin said, “And besides all the other intrigues, Richard Sinclair, the hero, starts the story during recovery of San Francisco, after the Daly City Quake of 2012…but it’s not the last catastrophe to face California in the fast-paced action. The story is centered in Sacramento and San Francisco, and in the Northern California headquarters of the Templars beneath Lake Tahoe. As one reviewer wrote, “To say I thoroughly enjoyed this book is an understatement! I devoured this book cover to cover! In fact, sleep was hard to come by, as I did not want to put this book down for an instant! (ever read a book in the shower?!)”

“Of course,” Rick emphasized, “I don’t want an epidemic to strike us, and California has had more than its share of devastating quakes. It’s just strange how the storyline seems to fit the weather patterns this year and the 2012 warnings of fanatics about more earthquakes in California. Forget the Mayan Calendar stuff. Everyone knows that California shakes regularly. I just hope the Templars in ‘Curse of the 8th Buddha’ are fictional. I wouldn’t want the real ones knocking on my door, but maybe the plague of 2011 will clean them out.”

“Curse of the 8th Buddha” will be available in October for Kindle readers, and is now available in hard copy at Amazon at:
