£300k Personal Injury Claim Shows Value of Compensation, says Clear Law Solicitors

A recent personal injury case has highlighted the important role compensation plays for those who have suffered pain as a result of someone else’s mistake, Manchester law firm Clear Law Solicitors has stated.
According to reports in the Basingstoke Gazette, Margaret Manners went on holiday with her family to Killigarth Manor Park - a caravan park in Cornwall - having been one told of the four chalets they booked at the destination had wheelchair access.
Mrs Manners used a wheelchair, but was able to walk short distances and did not need it while in her home, the news source noted.
However, a High Court writ revealed that when they arrived at Killigarth, she found her chalet was only accessible by “five high steps”, with no other accommodation available.
During her stay, Mrs Manners tried to go up the steps using her crutches, but slipped in the rain and fell on the ground and the crutches, badly injuring her spine.
The injury led to a loss of sensation and movement and in her arms and legs, and means she now depends on a wheelchair. Her lifestyle has changed considerably as she can now only use two rooms in her house, needs assistance with all her daily activities - such as cooking, eating, washing and dressing - and cannot hold her grandchildren.
With John Fowler Holidays, which runs the holiday camp, admitting liability for her injuries, Mrs Manners has launched a compensation claim for £300,000. She stated the firm was negligent, wrongly advertised the property as being suitable for wheelchair users and the hand rails and steps were unsafe.
Commenting on the news, Laura Ward, a personal injury solicitor at personal injury compensation specialists Clear Law solicitors, said the incident underlines how much compensation can do for a victim of an accident like this.
“Here is somebody who is already limited in her movement, trying to enjoy a family holiday having been told that her accommodation is easily accessible, only to find this isn’t true. Not only did this negligence lead to the end of her holiday, it has had a hugely detrimental effect on every aspect of her life,” explained Laura Ward, Personal Injury Claims Solicitor at Manchester based Clear Law Solicitors.
Laura added: “While the money she hopes to recover will never truly compensate for what has happened, it will help her pay for the essentials she needs to maintain some form of her old lifestyle and stay afloat financially.”
