Juniper Networks’ Platform Accelerates File Sharing Applications with Significant Savings

SUNNYVALE, Calif., - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Paccess has deployed the Juniper Networks Wide Area Network (WAN) application acceleration (WX) platforms for optimizing its WAN and improving application performance across its global network. Paccess chose the Juniper Networks WXC application acceleration platforms to increase bandwidth, reduce the impact of latency on applications and save costs across its global enterprise network.

“In several locations, users were experiencing application latency of up to three seconds,” explains Nina Palludan, vice president of Information Technology, Paccess. “That’s a problem for us and our ability to meet customer expectations. We needed a cost-effective solution that would reduce network traffic, accelerate applications and reduce latency. Once these requirements were set, Juniper Networks was the only company that met our needs.”

With an international presence, Paccess focuses on helping customers improve packaging, materials sourcing and supply chain operations. The company was experiencing significant traffic congestion across its network from file-sharing applications that included large PDF, CAD files and email, resulting in slow performance with business-critical enterprise applications such as Oracle. Additionally, relying on an older frame relay packet switching protocol for WAN connectivity Paccess’ China office observed significant latency problems when sharing large graphics files with headquarters. Purchasing additional bandwidth to this and other locations would not have addressed the latency problems and Paccess estimates could have doubled the cost for WAN services.

With the potential for network demands to double every year, the company realized the importance of selecting application acceleration products that would not only meet today’s needs but future years too. Paccess selected the Juniper Networks WXC 250 and WXC 500 for the combined ability to: reduce network traffic, accelerate applications and reduce latency. Working in tandem, the WXC 250 and WXC 500 have been able to cut the company’s bandwidth consumption by approximately 50 percent and have drastically cut latency times by up to two thirds allowing large amounts of data to be downloaded in seconds instead of minutes.

The WXC product line provides a scalable approach to accelerating application performance, increasing WAN capacity, and enabling application prioritization and visibility. The WXC platforms deliver compressed and accelerated output in speeds from 64 Kbps to 155 Mbps and support a range of connections to other WX and WXC devices.
