SAS customer, Duke University, honored for sustainability innovation

Duke earns 2011 IDG Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Award

CARY, NC – Duke University’s Sustainability Office was honored last week for its work with SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, to help develop SAS’ hosted solution for sustainability. IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program recognizes visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

The winner in the Innovation category, Duke will use SAS in areas such as sustainability performance reporting and predictive modeling of greenhouse gas emissions. One honoree in each of 11 categories was singled out for special recognition as the very best among 262 Laureates.

“I was honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of Duke’s Sustainability Office,” said Duke CIO Tracy Futhey. “Their work with SAS to help develop a hosted analytics solution for sustainability puts Duke on the cutting edge of green technology.”

With the hosted SAS® solution for sustainability, higher education institutions can manage and forecast resources needed to achieve desired outcomes, both across the enterprise and within departments. They can prioritize institutional strategies and align funding for innovation, environmental program development, and faculty and students accordingly. The solution also helps to ensure transparency with institutional constituents and organizations such as the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.

Duke was also honored as a Laureate in the Training/Education category for classroom collaboration efforts. SAS customer North Carolina Office of the State Controller was named a Safety and Security Laureate for the NC Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Automated Data Services (CJLEADS).
