Munich, May 12, 2006, Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices announces availability of the Siemens 5881 Broadband Security Router and Siemens 5883 Wireless Broadband Security Router. Both devices enable service providers to offer small or mid-sized business (SMB) subscribers the power of a flexible, secure, high-availability enterprise network at a price made for the SMB budget. Both the Siemens 5881 and 5883 Routers come with security features such as an ICSA-compliant firewall, VPN with DES, 3DES and AES encryption capabilities. The Siemens 5883 Router adds the flexibility of wireless network functionality, designed for SMB hotspot deployments.

Every year, thousands of new small businesses join a highly competitive marketplace. As part of their communications requirements, many of these SMBs are looking for broadband solutions that are easy to deploy, install and manage in a cost-effective manner, yet scalable to support their growth plans for the future. With the Siemens 5881 and 5883 Routers, service providers can now offer their SMB subscribers routing solutions designed to simplify each phase of the broadband lifecycle.

The Siemens 5881 and 5883 include ease-of-use features such as an intuitive graphical user interface, role-based management and firewall scripts making deployment, installation and management of the network and device more efficient and cost effective. The Siemens 5883 also includes multi-SSID 802.11 radio support for up to four virtual 802.11g/b radios on separate VLANs. The wireless model also supports SuperG and Extended Range (XR), enabling high-performance wireless functionality for applications such as WiFi hotspots.

“These next-generation small to mid-sized business solutions are a continuation of our commitment to provide enterprise-grade solutions at a reasonable price,” said Lutz Neubauer, Head of Product House, Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices “As technology continually evolves, we want to ensure these business-class devices were built to provide a platform for today and tomorrow’s communication needs, and we have achieved this with the Siemens 5881 and 5883 Routers.”
