May 03, 2006, Thomas Beusse, President of Time4 Media, the multimedia enthusiast division of Time Inc., today announced the formation of Time4 Entertainment, a production enterprise charged with supporting Time4 Media’s extensive video, film and television capabilities, serving the content needs and aspirations of all divisional brands and partners through one centralized group. Paul Speaker, a former President of RKO Pictures and seasoned independent film industry executive, was named by Beusse as the first President of this new venture, effective immediately.

Speaker assumes oversight of Time4 Media businesses anchored by the production of television, film and video/DVD content, including: Warren Miller Entertainment’s production and distribution of feature-length films, outdoor adventure television series, documentaries and action footage; the Emmy award-winning television production arm of This Old House; and TransWorld Media’s action sports video endeavors. Speaker is also responsible for spearheading television, video/DVD and film development for all Time4 Media brands, including Golf Magazine, Popular Science, Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Ski, and Yachting, working in concert with each operating unit head.

“The creation of Time4 Entertainment is a crucial step in our strategy to expand the footprints of our brands and frequency of communication with their consumers.” Beusse said. “There is great opportunity in the sweet spot at the intersection of our assets and talent, powerful franchises, enthusiast content, large audiences and the explosion of platforms for serving them.”

Commenting on his new position, Speaker said: “The opportunity to further develop this incredible group of brands is one that I relish.” He added: “Although traditional media is our focus, we fully plan to exploit the numerous distribution platforms that continue to drive new business including digital, mobile, and the web. Time4’s incredible and diverse library and extensive production capabilities provide us with an enormous opportunity to go where our audience is and create content that is synonymous with the passionate and adventurous spirit of our customers.”

“It’s a challenge for which Paul is uniquely qualified,” Beusse added. “He is a proven innovator in the production and distribution world of motion picture, commercial, and video/DVD product, as well as one of the top marketing minds I have had the pleasure of working with.”

Speaker, 42, was formerly President of RKO Pictures, where he and his management team completed two long-term ventures that increased the company’s production and distribution more than ten-fold. Prior to joining RKO, Speaker spent many years in independent film as a consultant to Robert Redford and Sundance, and as President of the independent entertainment company the Shooting Gallery, where he oversaw all creative development, marketing, advertising, production and distribution for all Shooting Gallery Entertainment divisions – television, film and music. Before the Shooting Gallery, Speaker was Director of Marketing and Ideas at the National Football League, where he was responsible for integrating marketing efforts across the entire organization and managing entertainment marketing in network prime time for the NFL. He currently lives in Pennsylvania with his wife and four daughters.
