Father and Son Book Place in Matchplay Championship Final in Dubai

Local Golfers Patrick and Graham Young will compete in Matchplay Championship Grand Final at The Els Club, Dubai

After a nail biting North Regional Final played at the picturesque Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club in Yorkshire on Monday 4th April, Patrick and Graham Young who are members of the Regional Final host course have qualified for the Grand Final in Dubai next month. Beating off thousands of other competitors from across the UK & Ireland, the pair has won the right to compete in the UK’s largest amateur golf tournament, the Matchplay Championship.

Having reached the final stage of their very own ‘Race to Dubai,’ the pair will be flown out to the Emirate, where they will enjoy 7 nights of luxury accommodation at the Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel and 3 days competition at the renowned Els Club. Filmed exclusively by Sky Sports cameras, the pair will have the chance to shine in front of a TV audience usually reserved for the world’s best players.

“This is amazing to have come through the North Regional Final at our home course here at Marriott Hollins Hall and qualify for the once in a lifetime Grand Final in Dubai,” commented Grand Final qualifier Patrick Young, a Bradford Union Player. “The competition was always going to be stiff, as everyone has won 5 matches to get to this stage, however the course was in fantastic condition and the tournament staff ensured we were involved in a professionally run event from start to finish, including on-course branding, photographers and Sky Sports cameras. Finishing 5 under par for the last 4 holes was the highlight of the round and we’re looking forward to getting out to Dubai with the opportunity to bring the Matchplay Championship back to Yorkshire.”

“Despite some challenging weather conditions, we have seen some tremendous golf from the competitors here at Marriott Hollins Hall,” commented John Woosey, Managing Director of the JRW Group, which organises the Matchplay Championship. “Playing in front of the Sky Sports cameras is a great experience, Patrick and Graham certainly rose to the occasion. We’re excited about seeing them compete in Dubai where the conditions will be different again. They’ve certainly proven that they have what it takes to win.”

The remainder of the field for the 2010/11 Matchplay Championship Grand Final will qualify from the South Regional Final which takes place at Marriott St.Pierre, near Bristol. From these events, the final 36 golfers from the mixed and men’s pairs will advance to the Els Club, Dubai to compete from 7th-14th May.

Entries for the 2011/2012 Matchplay Championship are now open, including a brand-new Men’s Singles event. For further information please visit
