Cinnaminson, NJ

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released a booklet entitled “Biological Pollutants in Your Home” to inform the public about potential indoor air quality (IAQ) health risks.

The document states, “Many ordinary activities such as cooking, heating, cooling, cleaning, and redecorating can cause the release and spread of indoor pollutants at home. Studies have shown that the air in our homes can be even more polluted than outdoor air. Many Americans spend up to 90 percent of their time indoors, often at home. Therefore, breathing clean indoor air can have an important impact on health. People who are inside a great deal may be at greater risk of developing health problems, or having problems made worse by indoor air pollutants. These people include infants, young children the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.”

The effects on people’s health to biological pollutants in the home can fluctuate greatly. The amount and type of biological pollution can have varying consequences on different people. While one person may not be effected at all, another may have allergic, infectious and/or a toxic reaction.

EMSL Analytical, a leading provider of IAQ and environmental testing services, has over 30 years of experience and 39 locations across North America to help people test their homes and offices for biological and chemical contaminants. “Booklets like the one provided by the CPSC are great tools for educating the public about biological health risks in the home,” reported Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical. “Identifying things like animal dander or dust mites or even mold or bacteria in a property is the first step in fixing the problem. Once the problem is understood it can then be rectified. EMSL Analytical can help with testing supplies and kits as well as cutting edge analytical services.”
