The Rottenstein Law Group Learns of More Possible DePuy Hip Recalls

(New York, NY, January 27, 2011) The Rottenstein Law Group has learned of the possibility that there may be another DePuy Orthopaedics hip replacement device facing a recall. There is now concern over DePuy’s Pinnacle Acetabular Cup System because of similar issues to the ones that necessitated the recall of the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System in August, 2010. Components in these metal-on-metal hip replacement devices grind against one another, causing the shedding of metal ions into the bloodstream. This has been known to cause excessive pain, swelling, dislocation and metallosis: dangerous levels of metal ions in the blood. Over 93,000 people worldwide have been implanted with the devices that were recalled in August 2010; now, experts fear there may be thousands more DePuy lawsuits filed, because of this latest revelation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already received 500 complaints about the Pinnacle Acetabular Cup System. The number of Pinnacle recipients is yet unknown, nor is it known whether or not these devices fail as often as the ones that were recalled. What is clear, is the danger inherent in these hip replacement devices; their technology was supposed to produce a more durable implant, but instead it has proven to be dangerous.
