Peaceful Bedrooms ’Induce Healthy Slumber’

Making your bedroom as calm a place as possible before going to bed is one of the best ways to get a healthy and restful night’s sleep, according to one expert.

Speaking to Deutsche Presse Agentur, Heike Hofmann, a psychologist and lecturer at the German Academy for Prevention and Management/BSA Academy in Saarbruecken, explained there are a number of things people can do if they find they struggle to achieve a good night’s rest.

She suggests the layout of your bedroom can make a big difference to your sleep patterns. “Ban everything from your bedroom that disturbs you, like a ticking clock or things that remind you of your job or everyday stress,” the specialist states.

Considering your diet is also important, Ms Hofmann says, and it is best to avoid heavy meals before going to bed. Equally, steering clear of alcohol and caffeine in the evenings is advised.

She goes on to note people should end their day as peacefully as possible – by avoiding “strenuous activities, stress, frustration or excitement just before bedtime” - if they want to enjoy a healthy slumber.

Commenting on the advice, Dreams’ Gary Robinson explained having high quality bedroom furniture is, in fact, the sure-fire way to sleep well.

“As much as this is great advice that will surely help you sleep better at night, something is clearly missing,” Mr Robinson said.

“If you go through all of these steps and get into a peaceful frame of mind before going to bed, but your mattress is old, worn and uncomfortable, the truth is all your preparation will become undone. A comfortable mattress and bed is absolutely essential for a healthy night’s sleep.”
