Eurotunnel celebrates 20 year anniversary of linking England and France
Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel is inviting travellers to join them celebrating 20 years since breaking through the last inches of soil to connect the UK and France.
On December 1 1990 Englishman Graham Fagg and Frenchman Phillippe Cozette shook hands through a connecting hole completing the world’s longest undersea tunnel.
To mark the anniversary Eurotunnel is offering return day trip tickets to France for the special price of £20 per car.
With a crossing time of just 35 minutes Eurotunnel has made it easy for day trippers to experience France and helped popularise affordable and convenient city breaks in Europe.
The 31.4 mile-log Channel Tunnel took six years to construct and was opened to the public in 1994. In 1996 it was named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
More than 250 million people have passed through the tunnel since it opened, making it a comfortable and popular alternative to taking the ferry to France.
The Eurotunnel breakthrough £20 day trip promotion runs from 16th November to 9th December and is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The price includes the car and up to 9 passengers. There are also no luggage or fuel supplements either.
During this promotional period can take advantage of a number of exclusive breakthrough offers by simply collecting vouchers from the Eurotunnel Folkestone terminal.
These offers, exclusive to Eurotunnel customers, range from a €5 per person entrance ticket to Nausicaà, the Sealife centre based in Boulogne-sur-Mer, as well as three course €20 per person menu at two of Calais finest restaurants - l’Histoire Ancienne and Au Côte d’Argent restaurant.
Day trippers looking to stock up for Christmas can take advantage of fantastic wines, spirits and Champagne deals at Eurotunnel’s Folkestone and Calais terminals.
Bookings must be made over the phone on 0844 879 7371. For further details, please visit: www.eurotunnel.com.
