UK POS unveils its bespoke touch at the British Museum to 5.5 million visitors

28 October 2010: UK POS, market leaders in display and POS solutions, has unveiled its latest series of bespoke solutions at the British Museum, number one in the list of the top five most visited museums in the UK last year*. With an estimated 5,569,981 visitors a year, UK POS’ new solutions sit in the heart of the museum’s gift shops, which are all located off the spectacular Reading Room with its infamous grand glass ceiling.

Approached by the British Museum to design POS solutions that remained in keeping with its environment and the eras represented in each of the individual gift shops, bookshops and souvenir shops, the point of sale solutions were installed over the summer.

Four main products were tailor made to suit different areas within the museum. Unique Display Ticket Holders were developed for the children’s section of the shops, where toys are displayed, to encourage children to interact with them but also to promote the fact that they could be bought as a souvenir. Bespoke Wall Poster Displays were made to specification to ensure they suited the bespoke wall fittings in the museum and promoted products in a stylish and unobtrusive manner.

A unique variation of UK POS’ oval base poster holders was designed to sit on top of the glass cabinets containing delicate giftware. A thicker base was proposed with the header section sitting on top to draw attention to the more valuable gifts. The fourth solution was a series of showcard stands that sit upright so that visitors are drawn to specific areas when they enter the shops. These contained no colour or branding, creating a chic, simple and clear marketing tool.

Debra Jamison, Sales and Marketing Director at UK POS, said:
“The British Museum project was fantastic to work on. The solutions we designed had to be extremely subtle due to the décor and nature of the buildings, whilst still promoting the products in the gift shops that the Museum wanted to draw attention to. It was a really interesting challenge to be faced with and a client we would love to work with again.”

Tom Costello at the British Museum, said:
“We chose to work with UK POS because of the quality of its finished products and its ability to design bespoke solutions. We’re extremely happy with the result, which was in the gift shops in time for the summer – an extremely busy period for us - and really draws attention to some of our best sellers and the stock we want to showcase.”

UK POS has been manufacturing point of sale products for over 20 years and is continually adapting to changing market trends when it comes to working with retailers to market their offers.
