Stock to Custom on a Budget – Let Your Imagination Run Wild

WEBWIRE

Suppose you’ve just developed a new skin care line and you want your packaging to be as compelling as the product itself. Can you really create an eye-appealing, jump-off-the-shelf presence on a budget? You bet you can.

Many dramatic packages you see on shelves today demonstrate the look you can achieve from stock packaging. When you combine your unique vision with the experience and creative guidance of a knowledgeable packaging consultant, and add the artistic abilities of an inspired custom decorating team, the possibilities are endless!

Packaging that Sizzles on (and off!) the Shelf

There’s a lot of competition in the marketplace when it comes to sun care products. Identifying budget-conscious packaging with “pick me, pick me” presence is challenging, but far from impossible. In fact, with some expertise, ingenuity and imagination, it’s easy to orchestrate a dynamic, budget-friendly packaging solution that exceeds expectations – in design and in sales!

One new sun care product started with a stock PET 8 oz. Barolo Round, topped with a 24-410 white finger-tip lotion pump. Next, to give this bottle some “pop,” vertical gradient shading was added, from light orchid to bronze. The final step? Decorating with a three-pass silkscreen printing process, to add brand-defining graphics and lettering. Stock to custom in three easy steps!

Skin Care Packaging that Commands a Second Look

When a prominent dermatologist developed a skincare line exclusively for the “multi-hued” skin tones of African American, Latina, and Asian women, packaging was major consideration. The line needed to hold a price point that made it accessible to all women, so packaging costs couldn’t add substantially to the price of the products.

The product manufacturer envisioned packaging that had a modern apothecary aesthetic – packaging that assured women that the products’ functions and formulas were based in the science of dermatology. Yet they also wanted the packaging to convey a serious sense of beauty.

In this case, the manufacturer opted for a stock PET cobalt blue 6 oz. squat Boston Round topped with a 24-410 black lotion pump for the Daily Gentle Cleanser and a stock PET cobalt blue 2-oz Boston Round topped with a 20-410 black lotion pump for the Night Treatment Complex. Simple, white medicinal labels that highlight the function of each product and its role in the complete skincare system, along with beautifully decorated outer cartons, enhance and complete the apothecary look.

This packaging stands out in the competitive marketplace and commands attention with its clean, modern, and polished graphic appearance.

Glacial Water with an Icy Look and Feel

When it comes to bottled water, it’s not easy to stand out from the pack. An iceberg water company was looking for packaging as unique as its Newfoundland iceberg water source to launch its product in the U.S. and Canada premium water markets. The company wanted to visually represent the pure iceberg taste of their water and promote its use as a mixer with premium liquor brands.

Obviously, there were many persuasive ways to package this unique image. However, the water company decided on a stock Bellisima flint glass bottle, in 375 ml and 750 ml sizes, because this particular bottle conveyed the look and feel of luxury. Frosting each bottle created an “icy” look, which was further enhanced by the addition of an ice blue, bar-top cork cap. The application of a dimpled seal-band top label, along with a frosted look primary label, to achieve the total look that the client desired, completed the packaging design. The final product was supplied to liquor stores, restaurants and bars.

Every manufacturer wants a product that “shines.” A product that cries out from the shelf, “Me. Me. Pick me!” A common mistake is thinking that to look unique and distinctive, packaging has to be expensive. As these three examples demonstrate, this simply isn’t the case. All you need is a knowledgeable and experienced packaging consultant who knows how to guide your imagination, allowing it to run wild, so you can create memorable packaging, and a memorable brand, on a stock budget.
