Network Enlists First Brand Ambassador & Early Childhood Expert Jeannette Torres-Alvarez to Get the Word out and Lead in New Interstitial Initiative “Nuestros Hijos” --

(Miami, Fl.) Leading the way in quality programming for Hispanic mothers and their preschoolers, and near full penetration within the Hispanic digital tier packages, Discovery Familia ups the ante introducing 130 hours of new programming, a welcoming new look and feel, and a slate of informative interstitials led by trusted experts to provide mothers with useful advice and insights.

Starting in October, the network will launch a new look that reflects its personality: warm, inviting, informative, a place that Hispanic moms can call home (click here to view network’s sizzle reel). In addition, the network is expanding its already strong slate of programming with new options that reflect what she values most: her kids, her home, and her time.

“With a strong foundation in place and a significant investment in quality programming that speaks to the Discovery Familia brand promise, we are now taking our message to consumers with a comprehensive marketing campaign featuring the network’s first brand ambassador. We want Hispanic Moms to know that we are completely devoted to filling the void on television that responds to their needs and interests,” said Bilai Joa Silar, Vice President and Channel Director, Discovery Networks U.S. Hispanic Group.

During the day, the network continues with its mission of providing a safe and enriching co-viewing experience by adding curriculum-based preschool programming in Spanish, including the new animated children’s series My Big Big Friend, starring a six-year-old boy named Yuri. In his imagination he is brave and adventurous, but in real life Yuri is truly shy. At least that is until the day when he dreams-up his imaginary friends: Goliat, Nessa and Bongo. This animated series explores a child’s world, emphasizing the value of true friendship. Through interplay and creativity these friends overcome obstacles and learn that when it comes to friendship size really does not matter.

Also this fall, the network introduces young viewers to Animal Mechanicals, a colorful ‘snap-together-take-apart“ world of imagination. The challenges Animal Mechanicals face mirror the conflicts, uncertainties, and changes in preschooler’s lives. Along with the ”inner theme" which encourages resilience, children will also explore simple color, pattern or shape sequencing to help them develop their spatial perception and problem solving skills.

At nighttime it is all about empowering women. From cooking to parenting and home improvement to beauty and health, Discovery Familia is widely expanding its choices within its three core nighttime programming categories (full programming descriptions available on accompanying fact sheet):

* My Kids: offers new programs with sound advice and expert solutions about raising a family. Additions include: Conociendo a mi bebe, Crash Test Mommy, Take My Kids Please, and Spoiled Rotten.
* My Home: explores design, cooking, home renovation and everything she needs to know about her space. Here is what is new this fall: Domestic Blitz, 4 Ingredients, Design Match, and How Clean is Your House.
* My Time: focuses on beauty and wellness with new offerings that include: 10 Years Younger , and What’s Good for You.

Discovery Familia also welcomes Jeannette Torres-Álvarez, respected early childhood expert, wife and mother as the network’s first brand ambassador. Jeannette will serve as an integral part of a national television and on-line push in English and Spanish to attract bilingual and Spanish dominant mothers. She will also lead the way as the on-air host of a brand new series of informative interstitials, “Nuestros Hijos”, which focus on areas of interest to Hispanic moms such as: language development, healthy habits, parenting and more.

“I am thrilled to be working with a network that is one hundred percent dedicated to serving the unique needs of Hispanic moms and their preschool aged children. Discovery Familia is truly making a difference, in that it gives us a much-needed place to turn to when we need advice, support or just the knowledge that we are not alone,” said Jeannette.

Lastly, the rich online platform (www.discoveryfamilia.com) is also being revamped. Mothers can expect not only a new look and feel, but also a fun and educational safe haven with tools and activities aimed at helping preschoolers develop in various areas that serve as the building blocks for future learning and growth.
