Running for one day only on 15th October 2010, the Sinanggiyaw Festival is a celebration of the harvest and will see residents showcasing the best in Filipino traditional dance. With a carnival like atmosphere the event see a series of parades from children and adults dressed in colourful costumes and performing ritual and street dances.
Sinanggiyaw is the formation of two words in Cebuano, incorporating Sinanggi which means plentiful in relation to farm crops, and Sayaw which means to dance. Dancing is a major part of the show and performances will be based on the three agricultural seasons of planting, harvesting and thanksgiving.
The event takes place in the city of Dumanjug where hundreds of residents are taking part in the spectacle along with students from all of the local schools. Pupils will be competing for a number of prizes being awarded on the day including the best ritual dancing, best choreography and best costumes.
In addition judges will be looking to crown a festival king and queen and seeing if there are new contenders to the Cogon National High School who have reigned as festival champions for three consecutive years.
