BT supports customer success in Asia by significantly expanding in-region capabilities

BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services, today announced the roll-out of the first phase of its recently publicised investment programme into the Asia Pacific region, covering additional resourcing, new infrastructure and expanded portfolio of services.

As part of this plan, BT is in the process of hiring around 300 new positions across Asia. This will ensure that key portfolio and services enjoyed by BT’s customers around the world can be offered and fully supported in Asia Pacific. New staff will be employed across the region in the key customer markets of Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Singapore. BT is also establishing a bid response centre in Singapore to enhance its capabilities to pursue large regional managed services deals, an area where we lead the market today in many parts of the world.

The expansion of the in-region proposition portfolio will allow BT to provide enhanced service delivery capabilities as customers invest throughout Asia Pacific, a region that is playing an increasingly pivotal role in the decisions of global multinational corporations. Approximately 80% of BT’s largest customers by company turnover are expanding in Asia. By recruiting additional staff and increasing capabilities, BT is now in a better position than ever to offer a truly globalised portfolio that fully compliments its well established Asian IT services network.

Jeff Kelly, CEO BT Global Services said, “We looked at what our top customers needed to be more successful in Asia Pacific. Our research told us they want a broad suite of propositions and professional service capabilities that are the same wherever they operate. The first phases of our investment programme will globalise the key propositions and services our customers require from us. We are also building out our professional services capability in region to serve the needs of even the largest customers. All this will help accelerate the profitable growth of our business in the region.”

Customers will see enhancements to existing products and roll-out of new services. This will include in-region capabilities in managed networked IT solutions including voice and Internet Protocol (IP) services; managed security; unified communications; contact centre capabilities; mobility and data centre support.

As part of the investment into the region, BT is also opening a suite of new customer technology showcase centres in Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney where customers can interact directly with leading edge technologies and propositions. These showcase centres bring to life the digital networked economy for our customers and stakeholders, demonstrating first hand BT’s leading networked IT services and relevant applications for their Asian operations and customers.

Additionally, BT’s in-region professional services capabilities will expand, offering more localised resourcing and new innovative skill sets such as providing customers with guidance on transforming their business infrastructure, in an increasingly network-centric managed services environment.

Simultaneously, BT is building out a global delivery model that takes advantage of the cost and quality opportunities available in the significant Asia market. BT will also continue to invest in its channels and work closely with our local partners to drive sales across Asia.

BT’s new investment programme in Asia-Pacific was first announced in May 2010.
