Self Catering Cornwall — The Staycation Trend Lives On
Last year self catering Cornwall properties experienced something of a boom with the resurgence of the “Great British Seaside Holiday”, or as others would prefer to call it a “Staycation”. This of course was due to the credit crunch and the weakness of the Pound against the Euro.
So, has the same trend persisted this year? Have British holidaymakers forsaken their beloved Spanish Costas, and foreign travel for another year? Are tourists flocking in from abroad to take advantage of favourable currency exchange rates?
Well, the answer seems to be a resounding yes, but, ironically self catering Cornwall holiday bookings seem to be down on last year by about 5%.
Jill Landeryou of DBHolidays (http://www.dbholidays.co.uk) when asked about this, replied: "There seem to be a couple of important factors at work this summer. People are aware of the fact that self catering Cornwall holidays have become a very popular option, and they are assuming that demand is outstripping supply which isn’t exactly the case.”
"Also holidaymakers seem to be much more cautious about making bookings until the very last minute. Late availability is very much the order of the day and holidaymakers are often leaving booking until just days before they hope to go away.”
There is of course a downside to this strategy, particularly at this time of year with the bank holiday looming, and that is of course, that finding suitable self catering Cornwall properties becomes that much more difficult with everyone sharing the same idea.
Jill’s advice is “Don’t give up too easily! There are always cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances, and if you persevere there are often some superb deals on self catering Cornwall properties to be found.”
"Like others in the industry, we always post all our late availability deals on our website at http://www.dbholidays.co.uk to give latecomers a chance to snatch them up.”
