Fujifilm and its Customers Walk Away with Top Honors from PrintAction Magazine for Sustainability Efforts

Valhalla, NY, April 22, 2010 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced that it was honored with two gold awards at the fifth-annual Environmental Awards gala hosted by PrintAction magazine. The ceremony, held in Toronto, celebrated the environmental innovation and achievements of the Canadian printing industry. Fujifilm was presented with gold awards in two categories: Most Environmentally Progressive Process or Service, Vendor based on Fujifilm Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc’s facility in Greenwood, SC for it’s methane diversion project that uses methane gas from an area landfill to power approximately 40% of the campus’ overall operations; and Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Technology, Hardware for its no bake thermal Brillia LH-PJ plates, which are produced at the Greenwood facility, and FLH-Z processor and EcoPro effluent treatment system. The LH-PJ plates offer a fast and clean press roll-up and restart due to less chemical and processor maintenance.

“Fujifilm is grateful to PrintAction for recognizing our sustainable business solutions in the graphics space,” said Allen Creighton, vice president, environmental, health and safety and compliance, FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation. “We are proud of the regional and global efforts Fujifilm puts forth to manufacture and distribute products that help our customers offer environmentally responsible solutions that reduce energy consumption and produce less waste.”

In addition to being recognized for its own environmental achievements, a staggering 6 of 9 gold awards handed out at PrintAction’s Environmental Awards gala in the printing categories went to Fujifilm customers who use the company’s Brillia LH-PJ plates with FLH-Z/Eco-Pro System. Out of the total 32 printer and vendor awards presented during the event, a combination of 13 gold, silver and bronze awards went to Fujifilm or Fujifilm customers. One such customer is CJ Graphics located in Toronto who took away the silver award for Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Project, Offset. The company uses Fujifilm’s LH-PJ plates and converted its processor to the Fujifilm’s FLH-Z with EcoPro within the last twelve months.

“I don’t know how Fujifilm does it; it’s beyond belief,” said Jay Mandarino, president, CJ Graphics. “The amount of time that our employees were spending to continuously check the conductivity and chemistry has been significantly reduced and the processor replenishes itself. Also, our maintenance has been reduced to once per month, instead of once per week using the old system, saving us a lot of time. Fujifilm’s lo-chem approach is making a significant impact on our environmental footprint, and is also saving a considerable amount of money on our monthly water bill. On top of this, we have also achieved chemistry savings of around 40%. I am thrilled that I’m no longer carting out tanks of chemistry to get properly disposed.”

Last year, Fujifilm was recognized by Walmart with a Sustainability Award among electronics suppliers for its efforts in developing products that supported the retailer’s overall goal of achieving a zero waste photo center.
