What Percy Jackson and the Olympians Can Teach Us about ADHD

The popular movie Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief provides a fun evening of entertainment, but David Giwerc, founder and president of the ADD Coach Academy, says there’s much more to gain from the movie.

The movie’s main character is a high school boy with ADHD and dyslexia. As the movie begins, he is getting into trouble and feeling like a failure. “Percy illustrates the real-life paradox facing individuals with ADHD and dyslexia,” explains Giwerc. “Some tasks he excels at, but other tasks, like paying attention in class, elude him.”

Percy succeeds once he discovers and embraces his innate strengths. “This is what we emphasize in our ADHD coach training and educational programs,” says Giwerc. “Every human being with ADHD has a core of strength already hardwired inside the brain and living inside the heart.
