Schneider Electric signs an agreement with Turkmenistan to improve the capital city’s power grid

WEBWIRE

Rueil-Malmaison (France), Schneider Electric, as part of consortium with ENEX, signed an agreement yesterday with the city of Ashgabat (population: 600,000) to enhance the reliability of the municipal power grid. The agreement was signed at the French Prime Minister’s residence during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow’s visit to France.

The project was initiated in partnership with Belgian contractor ENEX Process Engineering in September 2008 at Turkmenistan’s request. It is designed to substantially improve the quality and reliability of the power grid and respond to the surge in energy consumption resulting from Ashgabat’s extremely rapid growth.

Schneider Electric will deliver engineering studies, equipment and supervision in an end-to-end solution to upgrade and extend the capital city’s grid. The solution, designed to completely replace the existing network, will be implemented in three phases through 2017. A large number of Schneider Electric’s employees and suppliers will be involved in this major project, which perfectly illustrates Schneider Electric’s recognized expertise in energy management.

During their meeting on February 1, Presidents Berdimuhamedow and Sarkozy highlighted the broader cooperation between their two countries in sectors such as energy and saluted the signature of contracts in this area.
