TestAmerica Addresses the Challenges of Vapor Investigations at Redeveloped Brownfields

Will Elcoate, TestAmerica’s Air Product Manager, will present on the challenges of collecting relevant and appropriate data for Vapor Intrusion (VI) site investigations conducted at Brownfields redevelopment properties. The review will be presented in the Poster Session at the Brownfields 2009 Conference from November 16-18, 2009 in New Orleans, LA.

The EPA has recognized the importance of evaluating and mitigating the potential health risks posed by exposure to volatile compounds via the VI pathway when redeveloping Brownfields properties. The determination of site specific risk posed by the Vapor Intrusion pathway may involve the collection of samples and laboratory chemical analysis. The poster provides an overview of the current guidance for vapor intrusion pathway investigations, discusses the data quality objectives process, and the importance in collecting data of known quality. The collection of representative and relevant data of measurable quality is critical in decision making as a means to minimize future liabilities associated with these redevelopment projects.
