TestAmerica Speaks on Data Quality in Vapor Intrusion (VI) Investigations and Landfill Gas Evaluation

WEBWIRE

William Elcoate, TestAmerica’s Air Product Manager, will discuss the challenges of collecting relevant and reliable data in Vapor Intrusion (VI) investigations, and the increasing regulatory attention given to landfill gas evaluation. Both presentations will be provided at the 46th Annual Florida Section Air & Waste Management Association’s (A&WMA) Conference & Exhibition in Captiva Island, FL on October 4-6, 2009.

The EPA published OSWER Draft Guidance for Evaluating the Vapor Intrusion to Indoor Air Pathway from Groundwater and Soils (Subsurface Vapor Intrusion Guidance) that introduced a systematic modeling and empirical data collection process for evaluating indoor inhalation risks from sub-surface vapor. Over time, it has become evident that the Vapor Intrusion pathway is significantly more complex to evaluate, and that direct sampling of sub-surface vapors and indoor air is the only definitive way to evaluate the risks of vapor intrusion at a specific site. In this session, Mr. Elcoate will address the benefits of this approach.

Mr. Elcoate’s second presentation will review methods used for landfill gas analysis. A broad overview will be presented regarding the regulatory environment surrounding the evaluation of gaseous emissions, including procedures to ensure that laboratory data results are relevant and accurate. The use of Landfill Gas for power generation has widened the range of testing methods used to evaluate the characteristics of the gaseous stream.

Mr. Elcoate has over 20 years of experience in the environmental testing industry and is currently a technical and regulatory expert for TestAmerica’s Air Testing Program. He has been actively involved in Vapor Intrusion seminars across the nation. For more information, please contact Mr. Elcoate through TestAmerica’s Ask the Expert website at www.testamericainc.com.
