Lectures at the Audi museum mobile: On the history of wind tunnels and the “Göttingen Egg”

Ingolstadt – WEBWIRE

At the next evening of lectures at the Audi museum mobile, the two experts Gerhard Wickern and Horst-Dieter Görg will provide insights into the history of wind tunnels and a particularly aerodynamic vehicle called the Schlörwagen – also known as the “Göttingen Egg”. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Audi museum mobile. Registration is required.

Gerhard Wickern titled his lecture “Early vehicle wind tunnels”. Wickern, who was a specialist manager in aerodynamics in Audi’s Development department for more than 30 years, will talk about how testing technology in wind tunnels has continuously evolved over time. The evening’s second speaker, the automotive journalist Horst-Dieter Görg, will discuss the so-called Schlörwagen. It had a drag coefficient (cD) of 0.186 – still unmatched today. It was named after the designer Karl Schlör, from Westhofen-Dirmstein, who developed it at the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt (Aerodynamics Research Institute) in Göttingen between 1937 and 1939. Thanks to its characteristic form, the seven-seater vehicle was also known as the Göttingen Egg. These lectures are being held in conjunction with the special exhibition “Streamlined? Aerodynamic concepts in automotive engineering until 1945”, which will be open until June 9 – and the Göttingen Egg is naturally on display there as well. After the lectures, guests will have the opportunity to talk with the speakers at the special exhibition.

You can register for the evening of lectures at the Audi museum mobile calling 0841/89-34433. The registration deadline is Monday, April 15. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, and doors open at 5:30 p.m.
