Dow Basic Plastics Licensing and Catalyst has increased capacity at its SHAC™ Catalyst plant in Norco, La., by 20 percent. The highly efficient SHAC Catalysts are used in the production of polypropylene (PP), and are the preferred catalyst technology for facilities that license UNIPOL™ Polypropylene Process Technology.

“We are expanding in response to increased market demand for our catalyst systems – including both SHAC™ Catalyst and our new family of Advanced Donor Technology (ADT),” says Cherie Holliman Wrenn, product marketing manager for Polypropylene Catalyst Systems. “Our growth is being driven by the success of our newly introduced family of ADT donors, in addition to the anticipated demand of five new licensees that will start up in China over the next three years.”

Advantaged SHAC Catalyst Systems combine catalyst and ADT together to deliver high selectivity and high activity – enabling the production of a wider range of competitive polypropylene products and grades to suit a full range of market needs. In addition, SHAC Catalyst Systems improve margins for PP producers by allowing higher throughput and greater production efficiency.

“Dow is committed to being a premier supplier of catalyst and donor to the polypropylene industry,” says Wrenn. “This additional catalyst manufacturing capacity – along with the introduction of our new advanced donor technology and our ongoing investment in innovation – demonstrates our commitment to serving the growing demand for PP catalyst and donor in the global marketplace"

Polypropylene is a versatile plastic used in packaging, durable goods, automotive parts, non-wovens, fibers, and consumer applications.
