Parker Waichman Alonso LLP, Continues to Investigate Hundreds of Chinese Drywall Claims on Behalf of Homeowners. Cases Consolidated, Transferred to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

On June 15, 2009, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) entered a Transfer Order consolidating all pending federal Chinese drywall lawsuits filed around the country to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans before the honorable Eldon E. Fallon. Judge Fallon most recently oversaw a settlement in the consolidated class action against the manufacturer of the drug Vioxx. Parker Waichman Alonso LLP was the first law firm in the country to file a class action lawsuit in federal court on behalf of people whose homes were built with tainted Chinese drywall, and will continue to aggressively prosecute these claims, both on an individual and class action basis.

Parker Waichman Alonso LLP attorney Jordan Chaikin was a guest speaker at a Chinese Drywall Litigation Conference which was held in New Orleans on June 18. Among the issues discussed by Mr. Chaikin was Parker Waichman Alonso LLP’s leading role in Chinese drywall litigation. Mr. Chaikin addressed an audience consisting of attorneys and representatives from the insurance and construction industries.

About Defective Chinese Drywall
According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, the U.S. imported roughly 309 million square feet of drywall from China during the housing boom from 2004 to 2007. Homeowners nationwide have experienced significant property damage as a result of the gases emitted from the Chinese drywall, including damage to wiring, plumbing systems, air conditioning units, refrigerators, and other household appliances. Gases from the Chinese drywall produce a “rotten eggs” odor that permeates homes, and cause metals, including air conditioning coils and even jewelry, to corrode. Eye irritation, sinus problems and respiratory symptoms have also been reported among people living in homes with Chinese drywall.

Recently, tests conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency found that Chinese-manufactured drywall contained elevated levels of strontium sulfide, as well as the presence of several organic compounds associated with the production of acrylic paint that were not present in samples of U.S.-made drywall.
