Alignment of State-of-the-Art Technology Providers Strengthens Joint Product Offerings

WASHINGTON, DC and MINNEAPOLIS, MN - B-Line Medical, LLC, and Surgical Science today announced a data integration partnership enabling seamless integration of B-Line Medical’s SimCapture® product and Surgical Science’s LapSim product portfolio. SimCapture is an all-in-one solution for capturing, debriefing, assessing, and centralizing multiple types of simulation encounters. Surgical Science’s LapSim product provides realistic, high-quality virtual reality tools for the training and certification of laparoscopic surgeons.

The integration of the two products will serve as a significant enhancement for existing clients of both companies. The integration utilizes B-Line Medical’s unique SimMerge™ technology. SimMerge is B-Line Medical’s simulator integration engine, enabling SimCapture to interact with and import data from devices that publish their own data or communicate directly with SimMerge to collaborate on the recording session in real time.

SimCapture will allow for remote viewing of live or prerecorded LapSim sessions through its best-in-class Web interface. Powerful evaluation and annotation tools can be used to quickly identify important events in each LapSim session. Additionally, SimCapture will benefit from the inclusion of another cutting edge VR simulator in its existing stable of complementary devices. LapSim scenarios recorded by SimCapture will automatically be added to each participant’s online portfolio – a record of every simulated encounter they have had with any simulator or device, across a broad cross-section of simulation modalities. SimCapture acts as a universal platform, bringing together information from a wide range of medical simulation technologies.

“We are excited to expand the family of devices that are SimCapture-capable,” commented Lucas Huang, CEO of B-Line Medical. "B-Line Medical continues to lead the charge in the establishment of data integration partnerships with simulator manufacturers, and the ability to capture data from the LapSim product will be a valuable feature for current and future clients of both our companies.”

Tony Rubin, Director of Sales at Surgical Science, said "With over 250 LapSims currently in use around the globe, combining its feature set with an established video capture and learning management system seemed like a natural fit. The two systems should synergize well, and will immediately offer increased usability and functionality to all of our customers.”
