WASHINGTON, DC --Nearly 800 public service announcements (PSAs) will be distributed to television and radio stations throughout the country through NAB’s 2009 Congressional Families PSA Program. The program, produced in partnership with the Congressional Club, allows members of Congress and their families to participate in free, professionally produced spots that focus on social and health issues pertinent to the lawmaker’s district or state.

“Since 1985, hundreds of congressional members and their spouses have addressed community issues through this invaluable program,” said NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton. “We look forward to working with local radio and television stations to ensure that these important public service messages are aired in communities nationwide.”

Forty-eight states, along with the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, are represented in the 2009 Congressional PSA program, with several announcements recorded in Spanish. The PSAs will be distributed to stations throughout each congressional member’s district or state. A variety of topics were covered, including breast cancer, diabetes, emergency preparedness, going green, healthy heart, literacy, online predators and skin cancer.
