NJ Periodontist Offers Teaneck Residents Free Consultation To Discuss Gum Disease

Teaneck NJ Periodontist invites Bergen County residents to schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss the dangers, signs and methods of preventing gum disease. Dr. Bernard Rupnarain, a renowned Periodontist at the Bogota Dental Center, is hoping to help patients achieve a better understanding of the importance of oral hygiene and how it relates to their overall health and well-being.

Bergen County residents were previously invited for complimentary consultations with Dr Sultan Sherzoy, dentist and director of Bogota Dental Center. The two doctors have embarked on a joint initiative to improve the health and well-being of Bergen County residents.

An estimated 80 percent of American adults currently have some form of periodontal disease, an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. Symptoms of gum disease include:

Gum Disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults. More importantly, research has shown and experts agree that infections associated with the disease can lead to severe health risks including stroke and heart disease. It has also been shown that children of mothers with untreated tooth decay have four times the risk of decay compared with children of other mothers. Expecting women with gum disease are also more likely to give birth pre-term.

For diabetics, gum disease is especially dangerous. Severe periodontal disease can increase blood sugar, putting diabetics at increased risk for complications.

According to Dr. Rupnarain, “Something as simple as allowing plaque and tarter to accumulate on your teeth can lead to Gingivitis, an infection in the gums. If untreated, the infection will spread to the tissue and bone that holds teeth in place, leading to a host of other severe health problems.”

The series of complimentary consultations offered at Bogota Dental Center aim to educate residents on the dangers of neglecting oral health and avoiding bi-yearly visits to the dentist. Dr Rupnarain hopes that anyone that has neglected their oral hygiene will take advantage of the complimentary consultations, “If they do have signs of gum disease, we may be able to treat the problem before it spreads to their bone or tissue. The consequences are too severe to ignore the symptoms.”

Dr. Bernard Rupnarain is currently in private practice in the field of Periodontics and Implants. Dr. Rupnarain is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at New York University College of Dentistry. He has been teaching and researching in the Periodontic field for the past 18 years.

He is a member of the American Dental Association and an Active member of the Northeastern Society of Periodontists and the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Rupnarain is the author of several innovative presentations and publications in his field.
