Driver Education Gets an "F"

WEBWIRE

Graduation day for hundreds and thousands of students has recently occurred, and all the grades are in. However, Driver Education gets an “F”.

Every valid study of traditional driver education shows that driver education fails to reduce collisions. Patrick Barrett, founder of Driver Ed in a Box®, www.teendriveamerica.com, states, “Traditional driver education fails because it has five hours of classroom instruction for every one hour of behind-the-wheel instruction.” A nationally recognized expert in collision-free driving, Mr. Barrett goes on to say, “that’s why Driver Ed in a Box® emphasizes the opposite. Driver Ed in a Box® requires five to ten hours of behind-the-wheel instruction for every one hour of classroom.”

A Texas study, available at www.teendriveamerica.com, demonstrates surprising results. According to Mr. Barrett, “A review of the driving records of the graduates of our parent-taught driver education course, Driver Ed in a Box®, shows that our 16 year old graduates have a collision rate of only 1.7%. Studies show that 16 year old drivers in the state of Texas using other methods of driver education have a collision rate of 11.4%.”

Driver Ed in a Box® provides the tools parents need to work together with their teen at a pace that is comfortable for each of them. The fully integrated materials include audio CDs, video on DVDs, a textbook, a student workbook, and training mirrors for use in the in-vehicle training. The parent materials are thorough and are designed to help build the teen’s confidence in driving.

Students study each chapter of the textbook, either on a computer or using a paper-based version, and then complete a quiz at the end of each chapter. Parents grade the quizzes and keep records in the Parent Companion. After the teen has obtained a learner permit, they may begin the in-vehicle training.
