Compensation claim for Bullring chemical incident victims
Staff and customers overcome by chemical fumes leaking into the atmosphere at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping complex may be able to claim compensation for their injuries says a top personal injury solicitor.
Garret Spring, a Partner at Manchester law firm Pannone LLP, said the incident, which happened on Thursday and has now left the popular Birmingham shopping centre closed for a second day running is a disturbing one for those staff and customers affected. “There is no word as yet as to whether or not the fumes were caused by an accident or a malicious act. Either way, those affected, and that would appear to be at least thirty people, may have a right to compensation dependent on the severity of their injuries. If it was an accident, the company whose fault it was would be liable and if it was malicious, victims may be able to claim from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, which was set up to compensate people in such eventualities.”
Traders affected may also have the right to sue for loss of earnings as they will have lost thousands of pounds in lost trade.
