SiBEAM CTO, Dr. Jeffrey M. Gilbert, to Present at the Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition in June 2009

WEBWIRE

Who: Dr. Jeffrey M. Gilbert, Chief Technology Officer of SiBEAM, Inc, a fabless semiconductor company and pioneer in intelligent 60GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) technologies

What: Dr. Gilbert is presenting at the Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, a premier international gathering of scientists, engineers, manufacturers and users in the electronic-display industry. Dr. Gilbert’s presentation will focus on wireless panel architecture using lossless uncompressed 60GHz transmissions, highlighting SiBEAM’s WirelessHD-based 60 GHz technology that enables a “wireless panel timing controller (TCON)” architecture. In this architecture, the panel and media receiver box (MRB) connect using a 60GHz wireless link. The panel form factor and placement can be optimized by relocating the majority of the electronics away from the panel in the MRB.

Why: There is a surge of interest in super slim panels due to consumer demand for the most aesthetically pleasing viewing experience. As a result, there has been increased attention to the wiring of such systems. A recent survey commissioned by WirelessHDTM, a consortium of the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers and technology providers, found that consumers today are far more attuned to the ease of installation, wiring clutter and ease of connecting portable devices than ever before. Such concerns point directly to the need for wireless connectivity. In addition, picture quality remains the most important consideration for consumers when buying a new HDTV. As such, recent standards initiatives like the WirelessHD™ Consortium have presented new options for introducing uncompressed, lossless wireless connectivity to the consumer’s HD experience. Mr. Gilbert will discuss how these new standards and technology are finding a role in panel architecture and design.
