Erlangen, Germany, In the U.S., Siemens’ Energy Sector is investing a further USD 50 million in climate-protecting energy technology. Over the next five years, the company intends to expand the manufacture of energy-efficient power plant generators as well as service business for steam turbines and generators in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company plans to build a 75,000-square-foot office facility adjacent to its 550,000-square-foot manufacturing plant. The expanded facility will house engineering operations for the design, manufacture and service of power plant components as well as the company’s service business. Over the next five years, the company expects to create more than 220 new jobs at this location. Siemens currently has 780 employees in Charlotte.

“Our location in Charlotte is a critical part of Siemens Energy global manufacturing network, serving not only the U.S. but other regions in the Americas as well,” said Michael Suess, CEO of the Siemens Energy Fossil Power Division. “We have manufacturing locations strategically positioned all over the world in order to best serve our customers with solutions that are delivered more quickly and cost efficiently.” The U.S. is one of Siemens’ largest markets. Siemens-built power plants already supply one-third of North America’s electricity.

Generators and the servicing of steam turbines and generators are part of Siemens’ solutions for an efficient, environmentally friendly energy supply. Modernizing the power plants increases their efficiency, and every increase in efficiency means less CO2 emissions and thus better climate compatibility. Siemens generated EUR19 billion, or one quarter of its annual revenues, with environmentally friendly technologies, making it the world’s largest green infrastructure supplier.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world’s leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2008 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR22.6 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR33.4 billion and posted a profit of EUR1.4 billion. On September 30, 2008, the Energy Sector had a work force of approximately 83,500. Further information is available at: www.siemens.com/energy.
