Rockwell Collins Venue™ Cabin System wins International Design Awards

Geneva, SWITZERLAND. - Rockwell Collins’ Venue™ High-Definition (HD) Cabin Management System was recently awarded the Red Dot Design Award and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Northwest Design Invitational (NWDI) awards for high-quality design. The announcements were made today at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE).

Rockwell Collins worked with Teague, a Seattle-based industrial design consultancy, to develop Venue’s intuitive user interface including OLED switch panels that feature programmable soft buttons and an intuitive, icon based user interface, iPod and iPhone integration solutions that allow passengers to plug their personal iPod device into the cabin management system and distributed through the cabin, and remote control at the seat through a virtual iPod menu.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions worldwide. Images of Venue will be on display, with the other award-winning products, from June 30 to July 26 at the Red Dot Design Museum on the premises of the ’Zeche Zollverein’ World Cultural Heritage Site in Germany. The IDSA’s Northwest Design Invitational (NWDI) is a biennial competition, recognizing outstanding design since 1988. Entries are evaluated according to the competition’s five criteria of excellence: design innovation, user benefits, market benefits, ecological responsibility and appropriate aesthetics. Rockwell Collins Venue Cabin Management System is the industry’s first complete, high-definition cabin management system and combines the comforts and functionality of passenger’s home entertainment system while in the sky. Venue features in-seat and bulkhead displays, capable of true wide-screen, high-definition display. Nine programmable switch panels control the Blu-ray disk, CD and MP3 Player, audio and video jukebox, 3-D Airshow moving map and flight information. Cabinets are also equipped with standard USB charging ports and docking station for travelers’ Blackberry, cell phone, camera and iPod.
