Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Huawei”), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has successfully completed its first phase commercial FTTB (fiber to the building) network for the pilot project of HanseNet in Hamburg.

HanseNet’ s launched the FTTB project in June 2008. In the following November HanseNet started with 50 buildings and achieved a great success. The second phase kicked off recently and will add fiber optics to another 500 buildings.

The FTTB network deploys Huawei’ s MDU (multi-dwelling unit) products MA5651G/MA5652G, offering consumers high speed broadband access based on latest VDSL2 technology by utilizing chipset from German supplier. With Huawei’ s FTTB solution, HanseNet’ s high speed network can support data rate up to 100Mbps per user and an upload of up to 10Mbps per user.

Stefan Bachthaler, Director Network at HanseNet, commented: “Decisions in investments for infrastructure to meet current and future demands are of critical importance, because you get just one chance to get them right. Thanks to Huawei’ s deep understanding and expertise. We believe that our FTTB network can enable our customers to enjoy rich services via ubiquitous broadband”.

Customers can expect to see numerous benefits from the project. FTTx network architectures offer future oriented access solutions that provide a tremendous level of flexibility and reliability. Based on this fact, HanseNet decided to start a pilot project with this solution, enabling it to offer customers the same level of service and bandwidths. This helps a carrier to win new subscribers by offering Multi-Play services like very high speed internet access or HDTV.

“Our commitment to our customers is reflected in the fact that we’ re looking for relationships that extend beyond the length of single project. The quality and performance of our solutions is what will drive future innovation and investment by opening a broad range of possibilities to our customers. Huawei would like to leverage its proven optical access expertise and extensive global application experiences to provide tailored services to HanseNet.” said Walter Haas, CTO at Huawei Germany.

As an IP and optical access leader, Huawei has already engaged in more than 100 FTTx projects worldwide for almost 50 telecommunications operators.
