First Generation Mexican American Dedicates Sculpture to Past & Present Steel Workers

WEBWIRE

,Sal Ramirez, a first generation Mexican American, built a modern day Iron Mike using rusty old steel parts. He then dedicated the sculpture to “All who do not know how to quit,...and continue a proud tradition of keeping our great country supplied with steel”.

Sal’s sculpture sits at the entrance to Nucor Steel, a long time historical steel plant in West Seattle, Washington, with a dedication plaque below.

Visitors to Nucor Steel find Iron Mike an interesting and inspiring work of art.

Ramirez describes his work as a process of using orphaned steel parts that he collects and putting them together as a sculpture. As he wanders through the mountains of discarded steel parts, he watches for the perfect fit.

Sal’s sculptures are popular and his customers are world-wide. He runs a website called www.salramirez.com that showcases his work and houses his blog.
